Tim Atkin's Rating: 95 points Platter's Guide: 93 points
Chris Alheit, producer of the Cartology, was named Winemaker of the Year by British wine critic, Tim Atkin in his 2018 South African Wine report.
The grapes used in Cartology are from dry farmed bushvines, with a minimum age of 30 years, although most are around 40 years old. The Alheits are extremely picky about the parcels that are allowed to make this wine.
This delightful expression of Chenin Blanc starts with hints of lime blossom, fynbos and crushed bay leaf, followed by luscious tangerine notes that lead on to concentrated stone fruit. This vintage offers an immediate abundance of deliciously contained fruit. The palate is textured and precise with a long-lasting acidity. Drinking window 2020 - 2028.
Tim Atkin notes that this is quite likely the best vintage of Cartology since its maiden release in 2011.
