The nose is exceptionally perfumed with an abundance of complex red and dark berry fruit, violets and intense aromas of white pepper. The palate is opulent with notes of cardamom, cumin, cloves and black pepper. The mid-palate is rich, textured and balanced with integrated acidity, cocoa powdery tannins and a definite cedarwood character derived from French oak. It is a lot like a 'South African Chateauneuf-du-Pape'.

I went to the vineyard some 10 or 12 years ago and enjoyed a tasting at what I recall was a long kitchen table. The Chocolate Block was bold and smooth with lots of fruit and not too tannic. Sadly there was no allocation for sale at the vineyard and I had to procure locally. I am guessing that the vintage was around 2011. I have subsequently had all the vintages since and never been disappointed. My only regret is that I didn't leave some in the cellar to try as they aged.

Rich n tasty
Just my kind of red..full bodied, dark, fruity. Frankly all the wines I’ve had so far from WtS have been excellent both in terms of quality and value for money. I’m running low..send me some more :-)!!

A Classic SA Red
Bold and fruity, with soft tannins. Always good steaks on the braai.

Consistently good
Always popular and always good. This is a big wine, needs to breathe for a good 20 minutes. Great with steak.
