Tasting Notes
Tim Atkin's Rating: 96 points
Expect no less from the producer that put South African Shiraz on the map. Hartenberg came to prominence in with its 'Montagne' label, the label that is now Gravel Hill.
The estate's flagship brand has intense black fruit, violets, cloves, blackpepper, and smokiness on the bouquet. On the palate, it has sweet ripe fruit, spicy oak and rich tannins with a savory finish. This wine is a real expression of the unique terroir in the Hartenberg estate. It is an intense, tannic, structures Shiraz that drinks well now, but will show its best in a couple of years. Under optimal conditions, this wine will age for decades, with the best drinking window of 2022 - 2032.
