Established in 1694, Rust en Vrede has specialized in the exclusive production of red wine, with the focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
The 2015 vintage of 1694 is pitch black in color with a glossy, glass-coating rim. The nose leads with opulent new oak, sweet spice and seductive fruit. On the palate, ripe figs and bacon lead to dark chocolate, vanilla and blueberry compote. The Shiraz majority of the blend gives it sweet tannins, hints of wild thyme and enticing violets. It is a multi-dimensional, layered wine that has plush black fruit and a long and luxurious finish. Expect the Cabernet Sauvignon to show more presence in the blend as the wine ages over the next decade. It has an aging potential of 10 to 15 years under optimal cellar conditions. Optimal drinking window: 2020 - 2028.
