Tasting Notes

Tim Atkin's Rating: 97 points
Platter's Guide: 94 points

Columella is Sadie Family's most famous wine that's based on Syrah with a bit of Mourvèdre and four other official red grapes of the Swartland region, made in a Rhône style blend. It is known as the 'icon wine of Swartland'. Velvety-textured tannins, black spiced berries, licorice, and butter on the palate. It is not a particularly powerful wine with the alcohol volume at 13.5% but it is wonderfully balanced, has incredible focus and freshness. An age-worthy wine under optimal storage conditions, with an optimal drinking window of 2024 - 2035.
