Tim Atkin Rating: 96/100. Sadie's signature white, Palladius, is a blend of all eleven of Swartland's official white varieties with old, bush-vine Chenin Blanc playing the principal role. The full list of varieties include: Grenache Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Viognier, Verdelho, Roussanne, Marsanne, Semillon Blanc, Palomino and Colombard, as well as the rare Semillon Gris. Scattered through various parts of the Swartland, most of the vineyards are rooted in decomposed Paardeberg granite and are over 35 years old.
A hugely complex, perfumed and compelling nose with top notes of potpourri and hay before lemon, orange, peach, talcum powder, yellow earth and spice. The palate is highly concentrated with hard acidity and notes of pear, honeysuckle. It has a long spicy, herbal finish. An incredible, delicious and fascinating wine with a long potential to age in the optimal storage conditions.
