TASTING NOTES
Aasvoël is an Afrikaans word for a ”vulture”. This wine started off with the winemaker, Pieter Walser, being an “Aasvoël”, not able to buy the grapes on a regular basis from the farmer based in Helderberg, and waiting patiently in line for his share of the grapes.
Fermented in a concrete egg shaped tank and old French oak barrels, this straw coloured wine has striking brilliance and thick tears. It has a distinguished nose with dried floral blossoms, fine herbs and conference pear. This is a mouth-filling wine, with lovely texture, ripe fruity acids, and a long, broad finish. It's a wine that would pair well with grilled fish, shellfish with oriental spices, eggplant parmigiana, or poultry in cream sauce as well as aged cheeses.
