Warwick Wine Estate
Warwick Wine Estate is a renowned winery located in the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain in Stellenbosch, South Africa, with a heritage dating back to 1771. Originally a fruit farm, the estate’s transformation into a leading wine producer began in 1964 when Stan and Norma Ratcliffe purchased the property.
Norma Ratcliffe became one of South Africa’s pioneering female winemakers, and under her guidance, Warwick released its first wine in 1984-the acclaimed La Femme Bleu Cabernet Sauvignon (now known as Blue Lady). Warwick quickly gained a reputation for innovation, producing South Africa’s first single-varietal Cabernet Franc and the first-ever Cape Blend, and has since won numerous international awards and featured on prestigious wine lists worldwide.
The estate’s vineyards benefit from diverse soils, cool mountain breezes, and careful matching of grape varieties to specific terroirs, resulting in elegant, world-class wines. Warwick is especially celebrated for its Bordeaux-style blends, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, with sustainability and environmental stewardship at the core of its farming practices.
Today, Warwick Wine Estate stands as a symbol of quality, legacy, and innovation in South African winemaking, offering a memorable destination for wine lovers and a portfolio of wines that reflect the unique character of Stellenbosch.
