Leeu Passant
Leeu Passant was established in 2013 by award-winning winemakers Chris & Andrea Mullineux in partnership with Analjit Singh. Based at the wine cellar on Leeu Estates in Franschhoek, Leeu Passant was a fantastic opportunity to harness these exciting vineyards to create something under a new label in a different wine region, but with the same no-compromise approach to quality that Chris & Andrea share with Bas, and with which the Mullineux range of wines is made.
Leeu Passant honours the Cape’s vinous history dating back to the 17th century. These wines share many elements of the great wines produced in the Cape in the 1900’s, reconstructed in a modern, minimalist way while respecting the timelessness of tradition.
The Name “Leeu Passant” is derived from Heraldry, referring to a ‘roaming Lion’ and its symbol is visible on the top of Leeu Passant capsules. The wine brand ‘Leeu Passant’ is synonymous with Franschhoek and the Old Vine Project.
The Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines partnership of Chris and Andrea Mullineux and Analjit Singh also own the Mullineux winery in Swartland. Founded in 2007 in the Swartland region of South Africa, the Mullineuxs set out with a shared vision to create fine wines that reflect the distinct terroir of the area while embracing reasoned, sustainable farming practices and modern minimalist winemaking.

The Leeu Passant (Red)
This is the flagship cuvée from the Leeu Passant winery, inspired by the great Cabernet Sauvignon-Cinsault blends of the last century and comes from some of South Africa’s oldest registered vineyards.
Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Chardonnay
Planted at 400m on the Helderberg Mountain, not far from the cold Atlantic Ocean, this vineyard benefits from the maritime breezes giving cooler days and mild nights. This results in an incredible intensity and freshness in the wine. The outstanding 2023 vintage highlighted this vineyard’s great balance of palate texture and outstanding natural acidity.
Leeu Passant Wellington Cinsault
This incredibly aromatic, textured blend of Chenin Blanc with Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Semillon Gris has a beautiful balance of richness with freshness.
