TASTING NOTES
A wine with a story behind it, based on the day that Pieter was close to being arrested for supposedly murdering his son!
This is an extraordinary but true story of how the police thought Pieter killed his own son and buried him in a shallow grave in the vacant property next to their house. It was nothing more than a simple misunderstanding, but Pieter wanted to preserve the story that made it into the local newspaper. Hence The Cape Argus' article on 11 May 2013 about the incident titled “The mystery of the boy in the sandpit” serves as this wine’s label.
This wine is now 100% Grenache from Piekenierskloof, a high lying ridge with some of the most fabulous old vine Grenache in South Africa. This wine is hauntingly beautiful, with pretty aromatics and delicate flavours, but certainly not short on flavour. Redcurrant coulis and raspberry ripple swirls across the palate with bruised herbs, gentle spice, soft leather, freesias, and a silken, seamless palate with just the right amount of crunch. As Pieter says, "it was the most beautiful Grenache we could find."
