TASTING NOTES
The Swansong Riesling begins with a complex nose of mango, apricot, white peach, basil, and honeycomb. Slight aromas of kerosene can be detected, indicating a Riesling of the highest quality. It can be aged for some time, but above all else, the Swansong range encourages you to seize the day, and revel in the present moment. The wine shows a beautiful golden colour in the glass. It is smooth and round on the palate, with good acidity and a dry, crackling finish. Look for notes of lime, orange skin and tropical fruit, with underlying hints of honey, flinty minerality, and dried herbs. It brings a special twist to the classic Riesling profile and will be excellent when paired with sushi, spiced curry, or pork.
Besides the incredible flavour, one of the most striking aspects of this bottle is its label. Orpheus and the Raven is a joint project from wine-maker Etienne Louw and graphic designer Brenden Schwartz. In the years since the winery’s foundation, the pioneering duo have won multiple gold medals at the Winemag Wine Label Design Awards.
In the years post-global pandemic, Raven’s wise words to Orpheus ring true more than ever:
“Don’t wait for tomorrow, Orpheus! The Art of Life is in the moment, tomorrow’s song may never be heard...”
Raven implores us to seize the moment and revel therein – to compose our Song of Life before it’s too late.
